The Abu Dhabi Music Appreciation Group is pleased to announce its forthcoming concert performances by "Oud" master, Iraqi born Nasseer Shamma. The Abu Dhabi

Khalifa Al Suwaidi as President and Mrs. Hoda Ibrahim Al Kahmis-Kanoo, Chairperson and has close association with the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation where
lectures and concerts are held. The Group also has close ties with Sh. Zayed University and the Higher Colleges of Technology under the direction of HE Sh. Nahyan
bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister for Higher Education.

Mr. Shamma will be giving two also concerts at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. The first concert will be for the general public at 8:00 P.M. (20:00) on Monday 24
January, 2000 and the second, for ladies only, at 1:00 P.M. (13:00) on Tuesday January 25, 2000 at the Grand Theatre. The concert has been organised by the Abu
Dhabi Music Appreciation Group and is sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. The Abu Dhabi Music Appreciation Group intends to have a charitable
purpose for every concert it organises.

All proceeds from ticket sales of the concert will be to the benefit the Children of the Rehabilitation Centre of Abu Dhabi. Tickets are available from the Abu Dhabi
Cultural Foundation and cost a nominal 20 Dirhams each. Corporate cash (or cash cheque) donations would also be gratefully accepted (please contact the Abu Dhabi
Music Appreciation Group, below, for further details). Donations will be acknowledged at the time of the concerts. The Rehabilitation Centre of Abu Dhabi is located on
the grounds of the Central Hospital in Abu Dhabi and cares for handicapped children, children with special needs, social problems as well as adults and elderly people.

Mr. Shamma's compositions are culturally unique in that he performs on the Oud in a manner which combines ancient methods with his own original modern
compositions and is now one of the Arab world's premiere master Oud performers. Nasseer Shamma is the only modern composer and musician to have constructed an
eight-stringed lute or Oud following the manuscript of the famous 9th century music theorist, Al-Farabi. This new design (eight instead of six strings) expended the
musical range of the lute and gave it a distinct tonality.

His work on the Oud has been recognised and awarded by many prestigious musical academies, among them the "Royal Academy Award" from the UK, the "Best
Arab Musician" at the Jerash Festival of Arts and the medal of Agadir City for his performance in Morocco.
